More Than a Sponsor: How Insubuy Helped a Gladiators Family in a Moment of Need

For the New York Gladiators Cricket Club, sponsorship is not only about visibility on match days. It is about building relationships with organizations that understand our community, our families, and the realities of life as immigrants and first-generation professionals in the United States.

That is why our partnership with Insubuy is especially meaningful.

For one member of the Gladiators family, Insubuy became part of a deeply personal story involving his parents’ visit from India to the United States.

In 2017, his parents traveled from India to be with his family during one of the happiest moments of their lives. He and his wife were expecting their son that summer, and having his parents around brought comfort, support, and joy. Both parents were over 65, and their presence meant a great deal during this important phase of life.

His parents stayed with the family for more than four months, helping through the final stages of pregnancy, the birth of their grandson, and the early days of adjusting to life with a newborn. It was a time filled with emotion, family bonding, and celebration.

But soon after things began to settle into a routine, the family faced an unexpected medical situation.

His mother, who was over 65 and diabetic, developed a painful infection in her thumb. What first seemed like a manageable issue quickly became serious. The infection required immediate medical treatment, including a minor surgical procedure at an urgent care center in Danbury, Connecticut, followed by several follow-up visits to make sure she healed properly.

For any family, a sudden medical issue can be stressful. For families hosting elderly parents visiting from another country, the worry can be even greater. Medical care in the United States is expensive, and even a relatively small procedure can result in a major bill.

Fortunately, before his parents arrived, he had purchased visitor insurance through Insubuy.

That one decision changed the entire experience.

What could have become a financially overwhelming situation became much more manageable because of the insurance coverage. The total medical cost was close to $10,000. Because of the visitor insurance plan he had chosen, the family paid less than $2,000 out of pocket. The rest was covered by the insurance.

More importantly, the coverage allowed the family to focus on what mattered most - his mother’s recovery.

This story is familiar to many families in our community. Parents travel from India and other countries to spend time with children and grandchildren. They come for births, graduations, weddings, family milestones, and long-awaited visits. Most of the time, these trips are filled with happiness. But when a medical emergency happens, families quickly realize how important preparation can be.

Visitor insurance is easy to overlook when planning a trip. Flights, visas, accommodation, food, and family schedules often take priority. But this experience shows why medical coverage should be treated as essential, especially when elderly parents are visiting the United States.

Insubuy’s role in this story was not abstract. It was practical, timely, and meaningful. It helped reduce financial stress at a moment when the family was already dealing with a newborn at home and a parent in pain.

At NY Gladiators, we are proud to partner with Insubuy because their work connects directly with the lives of our players, families, and broader community. They understand the needs of international visitors, immigrant families, and people who want to protect their loved ones when they travel.

On the field, Insubuy is a valued sponsor of the Gladiators.

Off the field, as this story shows, they can be a partner in moments when families need support the most.
